Thinking About You

When looking through a microscope, it’s easy to see that life and energy exist even in the tiniest particles. Electrons orbit a nucleus, which contains ever-moving protons and neutrons. Zooming back out, though, it can be hard to remember that the chair we’re sitting on, the stars we gaze at, even the people in the checkout line next to us are, essentially, energy, just clustered into a specific form. These bundles of energy, knowingly or not, are constantly radiating vibrations into the atmosphere – and this includes us. So what kind of energy are we putting out into the world, and what kind are we allowing to
run our internal machinery?
Henry Ford, the automobile tycoon, once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” Ford obviously had a firm understanding of the power of positive thinking. It isn’t just repeating punchy aphorisms or forcing yourself to smile; it’s deciding what kind of energy you want to surround yourself with and live with in your mind. “Positive thoughts,” or energy vibrating at a high frequency, attract others like them – that’s the Law of Attraction at work. They say misery loves company, but so does joy. The more positive, high-frequency thoughts you allow to star in your consciousness, the happier, more affirming thoughts and experiences will find you.
Through this process, you can help those around you find similar joy. This is one of Satan’s favorite tricks: the tired refrain that says, “What I do doesn’t matter. My choices don’t affect anyone else, because they aren’t me.” Satan prefers us to desire life in isolation, but the incontrovertible law of God is that we are composed of energy, and energy always attracts similar energy. President David O. McKay once said, “Every man has an atmosphere which is affecting every other. Man cannot escape for one moment from this radiation of his character…by these qualities, he will constantly affect the whole world…Every man by his merely living is radiating sympathy, sorrow, or cynicism, optimism, happiness or hope, or any other hundred qualities.” The choices we make, the things we say, the thoughts we think: all are energy, and all have effects beyond those we can immediately see.
Today, this minute, we can decide to allow healthy, life-affirming positivity, the vibrations at which God resonates, to be the lens through which we view the world. This is how President Russell M. Nelson so confidently said, “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” No matter what is happening around or inside of us, we can radiate light and love from the inside out and make the world – even a small portion of it – a happier, more joyful place.
